Our union made a lot of progress in the last four years. It’s truly because of you – the members – that we have progressed so far. Now, it’s time for us to shift focus.
The next milestone for CAPS-UAW is to reimagine the structure of our union. We now have an opportunity for members (rank and file, supervisors, and managers) to help shape the future leadership structure of our union.
You are the highest authority in our union. You are the voice and the leaders of our State Scientist Bargaining Unit and as such, your CAPS-UAW Board of Directors is soliciting interest in joining the CAPS-UAW Catalyst Committee! We’re looking for motivated members that can think critically and help reshape CAPS-UAW for years to come.
The Catalyst Committee shall be charged with the following tasks:
- Researching other union locals with multiple and/or amalgamated units to see their leadership structure, with an emphasis on statewide and amalgamated units
- Collecting robust and representative feedback from members
- Developing and presenting options for leadership structures
- Presenting scope of potential changes that need further investigation
The Catalyst Committee shall be constituted of:
- 21 members, with the goal of proportional representation from the rank-and-file, supervisory, and managerial units
- Any member may self-nominate to sit on the committee
- The CAPS-UAW Board of Directors will vote to designate up to 21 members on the committee
The committee will meet frequently October-December and develop a report with their findings and present it to the CAPS-UAW Board of Directors at the Special Board Meeting in December, scheduled for Saturday, December 14, 2024.
Any member can self-nominate to sit on this committee by submitting this nomination form. Nominations will close Wednesday, September 25. To learn more about the purpose of the CAPS Catalyst Committee, see our Statement of Purpose.
