February 18, 2021 Update

The Committee. The CAPS Public Relations (PR) Committee is responsible for the production of materials, media campaigns, and events to further the image of State Scientists and CAPS in the eyes of the public. Their largest event each year is State Scientist Day, which draws more than 2,500 third-through sixth-grade students to the State Capitol to learn about the important work of State Scientists in a fun, hands-on, media-friendly way. This year has forced the PR Committee to think outside the box, and so, they’re excited to bring you this effort!

Today’s Update.

Dear CAPS Members:

The CAPS PR Committee will be hosting an online social media campaign and coloring contest called Thank a State Scientist to remind the public how important State Scientists are to their health; their access to safe, healthy food; and the protection of California’s flourishing natural ecosystems. In order to do this we need YOUR help!

The PR Committee requests that members follow CAPS on social media (Twitter and Instagram), and tag CAPS in photos of themselves at work with the hashtag #ThankAStateScientist! You can also send photos of yourself at work to caps@capsscientists.org. The pictures do not need to be current. If selected, you will be contacted by CAPS to request more information about your job to help CAPS create a coloring page starring YOU! The coloring page featuring you and your important work will be used in the CAPS Thank a State Scientist Coloring Contest where kids all over California will learn about your important work, color in your picture, and tell us why they would like to Thank a State Scientist! The contest winners will receive an at-home science kit, and their artwork will be featured on CAPS’ social media and in an upcoming issue of the CAPSule.

So, find those pictures of you doing the job that you love, and tag @capsscientists on Instagram or Twitter, and use the hashtag #ThankAStateScientist today!

MAY DAY EVENT

Join your colleagues tomorrow for a May Day event to highlight the continued struggles workers face every day!

Unfair, inequitable pay and arbitrary sweeping mandates like RTO show that employers don’t value labor. Stand up for our collective right to fair wages and working conditions!
