April 22, 2024 (Call to Action)

When: TODAY, Monday, April 22, 2024, 3-5pm

What: Happy Earth Day! Join CAPS UAW members taking multiple union actions on this important day for people and the planet.

  1. Join CNRA/CalEPA’s Twitter Chat from 12-1pm. Get the Secretaries’ attention by getting LOUD on social media for a fair contract for #CAStateScientists!
    1. Tweet @CalEPASecretary @WadeCrowfoot @GavinNewsom @CAGovernorusing the hashtags #CAEarthDayChat2024 and #ValueScientists.
    2. Example: @CalEPASecretary @WadeCrowfoot How will the State accomplish its climate goals when @capsscientists have been out of contract for 4 years, can’t afford & don’t want arbitrary RTO that increases pollution and decreases productivity? #CAEarthDayChat2024 #ValueScientists @CAGovernor @GavinNewsom
    3. More information on how to write a captivating social media post, accounts to target, and other best practices is available in the Social Media Toolkit.
    4. The rest of the day, tell YOUR story about why YOUR job is CRUCIAL to the environment using the hashtag #WhyISaveThePlanet and #HowISaveThePlanet alongside #ValueScientists and tagging @flatgavin, @capsscientists, @calhr_gov, @CAGovernor, @GavinNewsom, @JenSiebelNewsom, @CalEPASecretary, and @WadeCrowfoot. Let them know about the challenges you face and the sacrifices you have had to make in order to have a rewarding career in state service.
    5. Example: @CalEPASecretary @CAGovernor @GavinNewsom I fight plastic packaging pollution and move the circular economy forward for the Sate, but my colleagues are working paycheck to paycheck and struggle paying the rent and for food. #ValueScientists #PayEquity now! #HowISaveThePlanet
  2. Wear your CAPS green and attend the CNRA/CalEPA Earth Day event! From 3-5pm, meet up with your fellow union colleagues and members of the public, and enjoy the family-friendly festivities. The purpose of this action is to highlight state scientists’ invaluable contributions to environmental protection. State scientists are the proverbial “tip of the spear” when it comes to discovering and remediating pollution in the environment. Our State would not be the 5th largest economy in the world were it not for our labor. Sadly, our union remains out of contract with an administration that refuses to recognize the historical pay inequities that the courts and the legislature have pleaded with the Governor to address. Let’s come together to show that CAPS UAW is a force to be reckoned with! Remember to secure approval to attend this event.
