Hello!
Your CAPS UAW leaders invite you to participate in a special training that will help us grow our collective strength and accomplish our shared goals. Organizing for Power (O4P) is a training and networking program based on the idea that, to win the changes this world and our union needs, we must get a whole lot better at talking to – and organizing with – people who don’t already agree with us. For working folks like us, the challenge is to use the strength of our numbers to build majority-led, disciplined structures that come together around shared goals and win campaigns we launch.
The training is free and requires you to invest time and effort. The sessions provide useful insights into principles that guide our union for anyone who is new to organizing or wants to take on more responsibility as we grow our collective power.
O4P’s Core Fundamentals course will be held each Tuesday from May 7 to June 11 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The 2 ½-hour sessions are divided into lectures, practice time, and campaign assignments our group will complete independently. The topics include:
- Leader identification: Understanding who can move people – and that it’s often not who you first think.
- Semantics: Recognizing that the words we use matter – they must center each worker’s active participation as key to winning.
- Structured organizing conversations: Preparing what it takes to win over the hardest-to-move leaders.
- Charting: Incorporating a simple method to understand human social relationships, and to prioritize and systematize outreach.
- Structure tests: Developing mini campaigns to build solidarity and site structure, and to know when you are ready to win.
You can learn more about the program here. The deadline to register through this link is April 26. Before the sessions begin, your group leader will contact you.
O4P requires we register at least 10 participants because we will win only if we’re in this together, disciplined and committed, and ready to build our skill sets to ORGANIZE FOR POWER. We hope you’ll participate.
