Joint Labor-Management Committee To Meet. The Telework Joint Labor-Management Committee that was recently established in a Side Letter Agreement between CAPS and the State is slated to meet next month to discuss and provide recommendations regarding telework issues. If you have any specific suggestions for how to address telework issues you’ve faced, feel free to send them in to CAPS (caps@capsscientists.org).

Bargaining Team Established. As reported in the last CAPS Update, the CAPS Board of Directors established the 2021-2023 CAPS Bargaining Team at the November 6, 2021 Board Meeting. The team held their first meeting this week to prepare to continue bargaining with the Newsom Administration for a successor MOU. The CAPS Team is hopeful a successor agreement can be reached with the Newsom Administration ahead of the Legislature’s departure in late August 2022.

Know Your Rights. State Holidays. The Holidays are fast approaching, and as such, it can be a helpful reminder that CAPS MOU, Section 4.1 entitles State Scientists to several state-observed holidays with pay, in addition to any official State holidays declared by the Governor. The next state-observed holiday with pay is Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 25th), and the Day After Thanksgiving (Friday, November 26th). Additionally, every full- and part-time employee receives one personal holiday each fiscal year. Happy Holidays!
