Disability Insurance Vote Results. In May of this year, the Family Medical Leave Working Group, which was authorized by the CAPS Bargaining Team and CAPS President, put together quite the educational campaign for CAPS members regarding disability insurance programs – those being the Non-Industrial Disability Insurance and Enhanced Non-Industrial Disability Insurance (NDI/ENDI), and the State Disability Insurance (SDI) programs. As a result of the educational campaign and subsequent Bargaining Team discussions, the CAPS Team authorized a vote of the membership to determine the best path forward for the Unit.
Thank you to all those that participated in the vote! The voting ran from June 20 at noon to June 29 at 11:59PM. There were 531 participants, and the results were 69.4% in favor of changing to SDI. The Bargaining Team is using these results to negotiate a change to SDI for the Unit. The Team will propose the change for rank and file as collective bargaining affects only rank-and-file. This change is unlikely to affect CAPS’ supervisory and managerial counterparts, as all excluded employees are subject to NDI/ENDI, regardless of what program their rank-and-file counterparts are eligible for.
Bargaining Continues. July 1 has come and gone and CAPS has received questions about whether members would be receiving a July 1 increase in pay. As mentioned in the June 28, 2022 Bargaining Update (https://capsscientists.org/caps-bargaining-updates/bargaining-updates/) bargaining continues. CAPS is looking to secure a successor agreement that would provide increases in 2022, but no tentative agreement has yet been reached. The CAPS Team is committed to continue Bargaining in good faith with the State in hopes that an agreement can be met before the Legislature leaves in August.
