This week, we are kicking off our first-ever District membership meetings, with the first one happening later this evening. During our first meeting, we will cover:
-
How we are building our power and enforcing our rights
-
The latest in our fight against the State’s RTO mandate, including a recap of today’s pre-hearing settlement conference
-
Political action related to the California State Budget
-
Developing a district steward structure that works for your district
Come engage with your fellow CAPS-UAW members and discuss what you think the role of a CAPS-UAW steward should be, how your workplace is organized, and what an effective steward structure could look like in your district.
RSVP for your District meeting below.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
Complete the Budget Sunshine Survey
Over the weekend, the Legislature approved SB-101, the 2025-26 Budget Bill, and formally presented it to Governor Newsom on Sunday, June 15. This is a huge win, but it is not the end of our battle. The Governor now has 12 days to sign or veto the budget, either in full or by line item. This means that the Governor and the Legislature are in negotiations right now and we must keep up the pressure.
If the Legislature and the Governor do not fully fund the salary increases in our Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), the Dills Act allows either party to reopen any provisions of the MOU. This means that we could go back to the bargaining table, and before that we would “sunshine” our demands (make them public).
To prepare potential “Sunshine” demands, your CAPS-UAW Bargaining Team is gathering input from members through a Budget Sunshine Survey. The survey was developed based on the most prominent contract enforcement issues since CAPS-UAW members ratified our 2024-2027 MOU, which are unrelated to critical economic demands.
Please complete the survey as soon as possible, as bargaining could begin as soon as the Governor makes a decision on the 2025-26 Budget Bill.
