CAPS was founded in 1984 by State Scientists for State Scientists as their representative organization for contractual negotiations over wages, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment. But in the four decades since then, CAPS has built a catalog of benefits that add value to membership, such as:

$10,000 in term life insurance and $15,000 in accidental death coverage. Join CAPS and you will be automatically enrolled, at no additional cost.

Discounted supplemental insurance – CAPS members may purchase additional insurance products at group rates, including:

·         Long Term Disability
·         Critical Illness
·         Accident Insurance
·         Hospital Indemnity

Lower-cost pet insurance – Last year, CAPS negotiated lower-cost pet insurance for members through our partnership with Liberty Mutual. (Premiums paid via payroll deduction.)

Theme park and consumer discounts – Through CAPS’ partnership with Working Advantage, members can get deals on admission to theme parks, hotels, rental cars, ski resorts, live shows and events, movie tickets, and more.

Travel assistance – Get medical, security, legal, and travel assistance for CAPS members and their eligible family members when traveling more than 100 miles from home or internationally, for trips of up to 180 days.

Grants and scholarships – Members can apply for quarterly $500 Professional Development Grants that support scientific research and professional development not fully funded by the state. In addition, CAPS offers 20 Dependent Scholarships of $750 each year for members’ dependents who are in college or bound for college in the fall.

Please don’t delay joining the more than 3,500 State Scientists – supervisors, managers, and rank and file – who are CAPS members. It takes less than two minutes to use this secure online form.

Dues are $59 per month. The benefits last a lifetime.
