CAPS’ 2023 Action Campaign
Value Science? Value Scientists!
CAPS’ actions have been organized with one goal in mind:
Support the CAPS Bargaining Team and illustrate to Governor Newsom, his Administration, and the State’s representatives at the Table that State Scientists are UNITED and STAND with our Bargaining Team’s demands. We want a fair contract – one that VALUES State Scientists’ contributions!
You and your State Scientist colleagues kicked off these actions in March by completing the Bargaining Survey and, most recently, by adding CAPS “Value Science. Value Scientists!” to your email signature blocks, if able!
There are ongoing actions that we see YOU participating in every Tuesday or when scheduled:
- Science Action Tuesdays. Wear your CAPS Green T-shirt and sport your virtual backgrounds during meetings to make a BIG IMPACT.
- Tabling Events. CAPS staff and Contract Action Team (CAT) members are tabling at worksites near you. Learn more about how to get involved in YOUR union. Get your questions about membership answered and join CAPS. See when CAPS will be tabling at your worksite, here.
- Solidarity Breaks. Publicly demonstrating your support for the CAPS Bargaining Team shows that we are UNITED. Take a Solidarity Break each Tuesday with your State Scientist colleagues. Remember to wear your CAPS Green T-shirt and take a group photo. Post to social media and/or send your photos to caps@capsscientists.org
- Action Commitment Cards. Show your commitment to participate in ongoing and upcoming CAPS actions. Complete an Action Commitment Card (paper or online form) and print or post it in your cubicle, on a designated union bulletin board, or in a break room.
- Teach in and Worksite Lunchtime Rallies on July 26.
- Join your colleagues in a Virtual CAPS Teach-in, register here. The Teach in will run from 12pm-12:20pm.
- Pro Tip: Organize a watch-party in one of your worksite’s conference rooms with AV capabilities and invite the office!
- To participate in the Lunchtime Rallies, please see if your worksite is on the Commitment Chart! If not, consider volunteering as the Rally Coordinator for your worksite here. Lunchtime Rallies will be held from 12:30-12:50pm, following the Teach in.
- Email Signature Blocks. Update your email signature block to contain one of the following approved-by-CAPS statements and links:
- Value Science. Value Scientists!
- Value (Insert your area of work)? Value Scientists.

- Regional Rallies on August 16, 23, and 30. Please save the date for a regional rally near you. Click here to print a Save the Date flyer to post at your worksite!
