Know Your Committees. There are 15 standing and ad-hoc CAPS Committees that work to carry out CAPS’ mission. CAPS Bylaws require the establishment of certain committees, while others are born of necessity to address specific issues. Descriptions for all of CAPS’ Committees and their responsibilities can be found within either the CAPS Bylaws or the CAPS Policy Manual. Over the next few weeks, CAPS will highlight the important tasks that fall to each of our Committees.
Budget Committee. This Committee, chaired by the CAPS Treasurer, is responsible for establishing the CAPS annual budget, in collaboration with the other Committees and the Board of Directors. This committee is also responsible for investment decisions of CAPS funds.
Executive Committee. This Committee, chaired by the President, and made up of the four CAPS Officers (President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer), has the full authority to act as the Board as specified in the Corporations Code Section 7212, if there are fewer than five (5) days required for action, as determined by the President, and the full Board is not scheduled to meet within those days.
Supervisor Committee. This Committee, chaired by the Supervisory Director, and made up of Supervisory CAPS Members, is responsible for addressing unit-wide supervisory, managerial, and confidential member issues, and advocates for those members’ benefits via the meet-and-confer process under applicable state laws and rules.

News Briefs.
California Association of Professional Scientists endorses Cottie Petrie-Norris. The California Association of Professional Scientists (CAPS) announced its support for Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris’ re-election to the California State Assembly. In announcing their endorsement, CAPS President Margarita Gordus released the following statement: “Assemblywoman Petrie-Norris has a no-nonsense, pragmatic approach to getting things done in Sacramento, and frankly we could use more of it. As a businesswoman and a community leader, Cottie brings a results-oriented and data-driven mindset to the serious work of protecting California’s public health, combating climate change, and preserving our state’s natural resources. I urge the voters to keep her in the Assembly working for them.”
