CAPS Student Outreach Programs

CAPS Science Fair Program

The CAPS Science Fair Program takes place annually during the science fair season, March through April.  The goal of the program is to provide recognition to students and encourage them to continue developing their scientific interests.

CAPS representatives from all over California attend regional science fairs as Special Awards Judges.  They select one individual student project from each of the 15 regional science fairs to receive the CAPS Science Achievement Award and a monetary scholarship.  The 15 students who are selected as winners can then compete for the Outstanding Young Scientist Award.

Volunteer as a CAPS Science Fair Program Special Awards Judge at a Fair Near You!

CAPS needs additional judges for regional science fairs, and YOU CAN HELP! Most Fairs need a team of five or six CAPS members to judge projects. It’s fun and easy – a great way to spend some time encouraging young people in the pursuit of independent learning and meeting other scientists from other state departments and fields.

If you would like to be a CAPS Science Fair Program volunteer judge for the fair nearest you, please click here or contact Nadia Compton by email at caps@capsscientists.org, or by calling 916-441-2629.

Regional STEM Fair Highlights

Thank you to all CAPS members for sponsoring the 2019 Sacramento Regional STEM Fair! The goal of the program is to provide recognition to students and encourage them to continue developing their scientific interests.

Regional Science Fairs

Regional Science Fairs are included in CAPS’ Outstanding Young Scientist Program.  All participating fairs are Intel affiliated and their winners typically compete at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.

Thank you to all the CAPS members who sign up to be volunteer judges at these regional fairs. The program is alive and well because of you!
