The Committee. The CAPS Public Relations (PR) Committee is responsible for the production of materials, media campaigns, and events to further the image of State Scientists and CAPS in the eyes of the public. Their largest event each year is State Scientist Day, which draws more than 2,500 third-through sixth-grade students to the State Capitol to learn about the important work of State Scientists in a fun, hands-on, media-friendly way. This year has forced the PR Committee to think outside the box, and so, they’re excited to bring you this effort!
Today’s Update: Thank a State Scientist! The CAPS PR Committee will be hosting an online social media campaign and coloring contest called Thank a State Scientist to remind the public how important State Scientists are to their health; their access to safe, healthy food; and the protection of California’s flourishing natural ecosystems. In order to do this we need YOUR help!
The PR Committee requests that members follow CAPS on social media (Twitter and Instagram), and tag CAPS in photos of themselves at work! If your photo is selected, you will be contacted by CAPS to request more information about your job. This information will be included with the coloring page to help kids and their parents all over California learn about your important work, and the picture you submitted will be turned into a coloring page for the Thank a State Scientist Coloring Contest!
Students all over California will be asked to Thank a State Scientist by coloring the scientists’ coloring-page likeness, and tell us why they would like to thank YOU for the important job you do every day! The contest winners will receive an at-home science kit, and their artwork will be featured on CAPS’ social media and in an upcoming issues of the CAPSule.
So, find those pictures of you doing the job that you love, and tag @capsscientists today!
