July 23, 2024

Please read this email in its entirety as it contains important updates and meeting logistics for the Membership Meeting – TOMORROW Wednesday, July 24, 2024 6-7pm.

The membership is the highest authority of the union. With this in mind, your CAPS-UAW Bargaining Committee requests YOU attend a Membership Meeting this Wednesday, July 24, 2024, 6-7 pm to deliberate and determine our next move(s) at the bargaining table.

You and your colleagues will participate in a straw poll to determine the direction of our contract fight. Only members attending will be able to participate in the straw poll. It is critical members attend the meeting in-person to demonstrate solidarity with your fellow scientists and to show our power to the State.

Locations

Here is a list of confirmed in-person meeting locations, also mapped here. In-person attendance is highly recommended, though members will also have the opportunity to participate virtually. RSVP to attend the Membership Meeting in-person here

NOTE: The Corona in-person meeting site has been unfortunately canceled due to a scheduling mishap with the venue. Other greater Los Angeles sites in Cypress, Burbank, and Pico Rivera remain open, as does the virtual option.

Virtual Attendance.

If you are unable to attend in person, please register to attend virtually here. The meeting link will be emailed out to you Wednesday afternoon and as soon as possible for those who register closer to the time of the event. Please see the participation expectations to ensure you are able to fully participate under ‘Come Prepared,’ below.

Come prepared:

  • Please review the Meeting Guidelines for Respectful Discussion prior to the Membership Meeting.
  • Be ready to participate in a small group discussion with your colleagues about the next CAPS-UAW Salaries counter-proposal for Section 2.1 of the contract and participate in the straw poll to inform the bargaining team of your opinion.
  • Arrive by 5:45p* to check in and plan for parking. The meeting agenda will begin promptly at 6p. *Sacramento attendees: Arrive by 5:30p to start checking in.
  • If you are attending virtually:

    • Please turn your camera on, if you are able to.
    • If you are only able to call in and not join with internet:
    • Ensure your personal phone number on file is up to date, so we can confirm your identity and membership status. Disassociated phone numbers will not be added to the meeting.
    • Please note you will have to give your vote verbally since you won’t be able to access the zoom tools that will be used for the straw poll.
    • If you are calling in, dial *6 to toggle mute/unmute and *9 to raise/lower hand. Learn more about logistics for calling in here.

What to Expect During the Membership Meeting?

  • Small group discussion with colleagues.
  • Opportunity to provide your input to the Bargaining Committee on what our next steps at the table are, via a straw poll.
  • Discussion  and socializing with your fellow State Scientists.

Why Attend?

  • Strategize with other CAPS-UAW members to decide how to win a fair contract for State Scientists.
