August 4-5, Los Angeles/Sacramento:  Light Brown Apple Moth Impact Report Meetings – The California Department of Food and Agriculture will hold meetings to receive agency and public comment on the scope of analysis of the Programmatic Environmental Impact Report for the new light brown apple moth eradication program.  To learn more about the meetings and the report visit http://www.cdfa.ca.gov/phpps/PDEP/lbam/pdfs/docs/NOP2_072008.pdf.

August 12, Salinas:   Drinking Water Operator SymposiumThe Rural Community Assistance Program hosts this free symposium to provide information to small, rural water systems to help them deliver safe, reliable drinking water to their customers. August 13-15, Santa Rosa:  Ecological Restoration Conference – The Society of Ecological Restoration will be holding their 15th annual conference with this years focus being “Restoration’s Bigger Picture:  Linking Local Restoration to Regional and Global Issues.”  California Department of Conservation, Office of Mine Reclamation Staff Environmental Scientists Beth Hendrickson and Leah Gardner will present a workshop on “Developing Site-Specific Restoration Strategies – Principles and Practices of Revegetation.”  To learn more about the conference visit http://www.sercal.org/conference.htm. 

August 27 - September 3, Central Valley:  Labor Day Recreational Use Study – The Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board’s Surface Water Ambient Monitoring Program is tentatively planning a water quality recreation study corresponding with Labor Day 2008.  The purpose of this study is to help develop a snapshot of the water quality in local swimming holes before, during and after a major holiday.  To learn more about the study visit http://www.waterboards.ca.gov/rwqcb5/water_issues/water_quality_studies/surface_water_ambient_monitoring/.
