July 2010

July 20, Sacramento:  Pharmaceutical Drug Waste Disposal Program Workshop - The California Department of Resources Recycling and Recovery (CalRecycle) is seeking stakeholder input regarding survey results, analysis methodology, initial findings and any additional information on effective programs in California that collect and dispose of home-generated pharmaceutical waste.
July 27 & 29, Fresno & Sacramento:  Agricultural Water Conservation (SBx7-7) - Listening Session - The California Department of Water Resources (DWR) and the Agricultural Water Management Council will listen to the public in two sessions regarding the agricultural requirements under the Water Conservation Act of 2009 (SBx707).

July 28, Sacramento:  Case Studies from the Field - The California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) will present the second of three Alternatives Analysis Symposiums.  Please join DTSC and its presenting partners to study the experiences of those actively engaged in alternatives analysis in the marketplace.  The process of identifying and analyzing safer alternative chemicals to use in products involves a complex and science-based approach crossing multiple disciplines. Dialogue among stakeholders is critical to establishing a successful alternatives analysis process for California.

Implementing California Flood Legislation - The California Department of Water Resources (DWR) has released for public review and comment a draft report titled Implementing California Flood Legislation into Local Land Use Planning: A Handbook for Local Communities. The draft handbook describes new legislative requirements that affect city and county responsibilities related to flood risk management and local land use planning. These new legislative requirements were part of the comprehensive flood package passed by the Legislature in 2007.  The Handbook can be downloaded at http://www.water.ca.gov/LocalFloodRiskPlanning/ where directions for submitting comments until July 29, 2010 are provided.
